About the Position:
A Hand to Humanity Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Nurse to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in both English and French, possess strong organizational and leadership abilities, and have extensive experience in child delivery, surgical assistance, health education, drug procurement, and report management.
Under the overall supervision of the Executive Director of A Hand to Humanity Association, the position shall be located at A Hand to Humanity Medical Center and report directly to its Medical Director.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be an excellent team player, possess the required interpersonal skills, and will be able to maintain flexibility in their role. The key responsibilities are, though not limited to:
Leadership and Organization:
● Organize, supervise, and coordinate the nursing team to ensure smooth and efficient operations;
● Develop and implement work schedules and assignments for nursing staff;
● Supervise the arrival and pre-embarkation check, treatment, documentation, and timely reporting of findings to the appropriate authorities on all arriving and departing victims;
● Arrange daily activities, and schedule health assessments including pre-test counseling for victims;
● Perform referral and follow-up of victims to specialists for consultation and/or treatment while ensuring all the patient’s records are shared in a bid to assist in proper clinical management;
● Ensure that all required observations, prescribed treatment, and procedures are properly carried out and documented on patient’s charts.
Clinical Management:
● Child Delivery: Independently handle and manage the entire process of child delivery, ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and child;
● Surgical Assistance: Assist surgeons during operations by preparing the operating room, arranging equipment, and providing necessary support during procedures;
● Carry out minor surgical procedures, screening, admissions, consultation, resuscitation, and stabilization of clients in the management of clinical emergencies;
● Provide effective reproductive health services based on all pillars of safe motherhood to ensure the best maternal-child outcome if required;
● Implement community health strategy in collaboration with key stakeholders;
● Observe and maintain infection prevention policy daily and ensure a safe work environment;
● Maintains confidentiality of information and collaborative relationships with clients, partners, and health professionals;
● Do clinical coverage and on-call as required.
Reporting and Communication:
● Prepare a report for each victim on procedures administered to patients as applicable;
● Compile and submit quarterly inventory returns/requisitions of all drugs and supplies.
● Provide individualized health education and counseling related to health maintenance and disease prevention;
● Prepare and submit weekly/monthly work schedules, and plan daily duties and responsibilities to ensure adequate coverage;
● Compile and submit weekly/monthly activity reports.
● Maintain and update key registers in the assigned area and documentation of client assessment, nursing diagnosis, and outcomes while ensuring the confidentiality of records;
● Ensure that all referral admissions, discharges, transfers, and deaths are properly recorded as they occur and participate in respective audits;
● Health Education: Deliver engaging and informative health talks on various topics to patients, community members, and staff;
● Preparing and facilitating regular health education sessions for patients;
● Participate in health surveys/campaigns as required.
Operations:
● Drug Procurement: Oversee the procurement of drugs, ensuring the timely and efficient acquisition of necessary medical supplies;
● Monitor and supervise proper usage of medical supplies as well as maintain adequate supplies and buffer stock;
● Maintain accurate records of drug inventory and manage stock levels;
● Maintain equipment in good condition and submit regular inventory reports of the same;
● Report any significant changes in operations to the supervisor;
● Carry out any other additional duties relevant to the job description as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Education:
● A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Nursing from a recognized and accredited university/institution.
● Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid license.
Experience:
Required:
A minimum of 4 years of relevant and demonstrated experience including:
● Supervisory experience and proven ability to lead and organize a team of nurses;
● Extensive experience in child delivery and surgical assistance.
● Experience in drug procurement and inventory management;
● Ability to complete and manage detailed reports accurately and on time;
● Handling and following up on medical documents;
● Strong public speaking and communication skills for delivering health talks;
● Proficiency in computer skills, especially in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);
● Ability to work after hours (weekends and public holidays inclusive) when emergencies arise;
● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
● Self-starter who can identify and complete tasks with minimum supervision.
Desired:
● Previous experience in a senior nursing or supervisory role;
● Experience in a multicultural and multilingual healthcare setting;
● Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems;
● Working knowledge of Mimosa and other medical database systems is a distinct advantage.
Language Requirements:
● Excellent command of the English and French language is required;

● Ability to problem solve and develop creative solutions to challenges encountered within a local office and help establish and implement new systems and processes.
