At A Hand to Humanity Medical Center, we believe that the fight against drug abuse starts with awareness, compassion, and collaboration. In line with our mission to restore hope and health to individuals and families, we organized a powerful community seminar titled “The Risks of Drug Consumption in Youths.” Held at Simbock Parish, this event brought together over 70 participants—primarily youths—alongside health professionals, law enforcement, and faith leaders.
Multi-Sectoral Dialogue for a Drug-Free Future
The seminar featured three dynamic speakers, each shedding light on the complex issue of youth drug abuse from a different yet complementary angle:
- Dr. Kamga, Psychiatrist and Mental Health Specialist, discussed the psychological causes and consequences of addiction. He emphasized how deception and peer pressure often lure youths into substance use, and outlined available treatment resources—even for families facing financial difficulties.
- Senior Officer Boba from the General Delegation for National Security (DGSN), offered a practical demonstration using drug samples. He educated the audience on warning signs, behavioural changes, and the legal consequences of drug abuse. His message to parents was clear: vigilance and communication are key.
- Reverend Peter Nillong, Promoter of AH2, addressed the spiritual dimensions of addiction. He called on the community to replace judgment with empathy and highlighted the services offered at the AH2 Rehabilitation Center in Etoug-Ébé, where recovering individuals are treated with dignity and care.
Impact and Outreach
This seminar not only empowered families with knowledge but also reinforced our commitment to holistic health. By tackling addiction from medical, legal, and spiritual standpoints, we provided attendees with tools to make informed decisions and support affected individuals. With Radio Maria covering the event, our message of prevention and hope reached an even wider audience.
